From Prompting to Directing: Hailuo AI Brings Cinematic Generation to CUHK
For nearly a century, the "Director's Chair" was an exclusive privilege, requiring massive capital and large production teams. But as generative AI evolves, the friction between a creative idea and its execution is rapidly disappearing.
This April, Hailuo AI partnered with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to host two specialized masterclasses. Led by our Global Ambassadors, Jeni To, Ka Tam and Tsuki Wong, these sessions demonstrated how students can turn personal computers into world-class film studios using advanced video generation models.
Mastering the Engine, Not Just the Tool
The core message of the workshops was clear: in the era of AI-generated content, the most valuable skill is no longer just technical execution—it's the ability to command a visual narrative.
We addressed a common misconception that AI filmmaking relies on "getting lucky" with random prompts. Instead, the sessions guided BA and Master's students toward the precision of professional AI video generation, focusing on the structural logic of filmmaking. Key explorations included:
• Cinematic Prompt Structures: Moving beyond simple text descriptions to precise cinematic language, mastering lens choice, lighting, and camera movement.
• Visual Consistency: Practical techniques for maintaining character design and environmental integrity across multiple complex scenes.
• Iterative Direction: Analyzing failed cases to show that a great AI film is the result of intentional, iterative creative direction, not chance.
The Power of Real-Time High-Fidelity Generation
Using Hailuo AI, students were able to experiment with high-fidelity video generation in real-time. They saw firsthand how the Hailuo model interprets complex movement and cinematic aesthetics, turning a few lines of structured text into professional-grade visuals in minutes.
The goal was to help emerging creators stop merely "writing prompts" and start "directing the engine."
Entering the Era of the "Lean Studio"
As demonstrated at CUHK, the technical barriers to high-end production are falling. We are entering the era of the "Lean Studio," where a small team, armed with the right AIGC workflows and a deep understanding of visual storytelling, can produce work that resonates on a global scale.
Hailuo AI is committed to lowering the barrier to entry while raising the ceiling for quality. The future of film isn't just defined by technology; it's defined by the human vision that drives it. And through initiatives like our CUHK masterclasses, we are proud to equip the next generation of creators with the tools to realize their vision.
